It is a fact that in my family all the genes regarding fashion have ended in my sister Carmen, that’s why I always take the opportunity to go shopping with her when she comes to Madrid to visit me or sometimes I use her as a personal shopper through Whatsapp when I wonder if a dress suits me or not.

Nevertheless, I cannot avoid liking to get dress up and providing to my looks a personal touch. Often, that touch is reflected with some geek accessories like earrings printed with a 3D print, Angry Brids badges, Minion t-shirts or even Angry Nerds t-shirts.
Sometimes it is not an easy task to find this kind of things, that’s so I loved when I found the other day while I was walking at Fuencarral a new Vans collection dedicated to Nintendo.
Among the items of that collection we can find bags, t-shirts, socks and, of course, shoes designed with images from Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda and Princess Peach among others. My favorite shoes are the ones from Princess Peach and I have just bought them in Amazon way cheaper than at the official store (47,39 euros).
WTF?! Smart Sticker
Por suerte esta semana he conocido WTF?! Smart Sticker.
This year at my birthday I received from my family a Multicook Pro to encourage me to cook again and stop ordering food whenever I run out of the food that my boyfriend’s mother send us.
Even if the receipts book that comes with it is not too extensive, nowadays it is amazing to see the amount of blogs and videoblogs where the people share their tricks and where I found wonderful receipts like the one for this carrot cake. Nevertheless, every time I went to the kitchen with my Ipad I ended moving it from one place to another to make some room for all the tools and ingredients that I needed.
WTF?! Smart Sticker
Luckily I have know this week WTF?! Smart Sticker. It is an accessory with two adhesive surfaces at each side that will stick to our mobile, tablet or similar and will allow us to stick it to any flat, dry surface. According to the information provided in their web page you can use it more than 1000 times with devices up to 1kg.
Cooking with my Ipad
By proving it in my kitchen I could realize that the subjection is pretty good and reliable even for an old Ipad with case and smartcover. The only problem with it was that after detaching it (gently rotating it and later pulling a bit as it is explained in the instructions) it left some traces on the tiles, but they were removed easily with a damp cloth.
WTF?! Smart Stickers expositor en VIPS
You can buy the WTF?! Smart Sticker at VIPS stores for 5 euros and there you can find many different designs. Also, in their web, they have a company section where you can order the product customized with your logo. That’s for sure an interesting option for some custom and useful swag for the next event that I organize!
Here you can see the video that I did while testing the sticker for the first time (it is in spanish, sorry!)
Today it has been the first day for this year Google I/O and I would like to share my thoughts about the event.
This year, Google decided to move the venue from Moscone Center in San Francisco to Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View and the distance to go from he hotels to the conference place are way bigger. As we could expect some traffic issues with so many people we decided to go really early in the morning, around 8 am.
Pretty soon we realized that there was already people in line waiting for the keynote doors to be opened. As GDG Organizers we had access to a reserved sector, but the seats where not assigned so we also joined a queue (first one of the day!)
Some things that we had seen in the keynote:
Google Assistant: Our personal conversational assistant that now is able even to consider the context when we request it something.
Google Home: A new assistant at home that we could probably call Alfred as can take care of things as different as streaming music to different areas of our home or controlling the lights and temperature.
Allo and Duo: Two apps that are trying to replace the conversational tools, adding some extra features like incluiding the new Google Assistant or changing the size of the text and icons.
Virtual Reality: We have seen some improvements that will be included in Android N, but we were expecting something new in hardware too. We have only known that they are working on the specifications of one helmet (similar to what we had already seen) and a controller (like the WII remote but for VR devices)
And a lot more new things regarding Android improvements, Firebase, Android Studio or standalone mode for Android Wear.
It is a pity that most of the things are not available yet and for some of them we will need to wait at least 4 or 5 months. I have missed some more things that were already ready.
After the keynote, we started with more queues, in this case, to get a box with a sandwich, some chips, a cookie and an apple.
For the sessions, it was more of the same… Long queues to get into most of them, sometimes waiting almost one hour missing one session to be able to go to the next one. And waiting one hour with 30ºC degrees and without a shadow it is not a nice thing.
I have mixed feeling with this day because I liked the sessions that I could see about new things in Android, gaming and Project Tango (more about them other day!), but I felt that everything was too crowded everywhere. Definitely, 7000 people are too many!
What do you think about Google I/O and the things that they brought this year?
This weekend I had the opportunity to go to Codemotion and I can only describe the result as awesome.
The location where it tool place, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, I think that it was quite good, as despite of being a bit far from the city center, it has good connections with metro, bus, train and many parking slots if you go with car, something really important when you plan to host more than 1000 attendees.
For some people it is a problem to have so many talks to choose, but I think that it was a success to propose so many tracks (7 with one workshop at some hours) as that way it is easier that you always will have some talk that you want to see any moment. I planned my day trying to go to talks focused on HTML5 and mobile and I would like to learn more about those topics. It is a pity that not all the tracks could be recorded and I had to miss some of them because the max capacity of the room was exceeded.
In the monthly meeting that we had this month in GUG we were lucky to have Mario García (@marioggar) showing us Gradle and confronting it to Maven.
We started with a brief historical review of the build tools.
We started in year 2000, when Apache Ant was released. It was a tool, where ir prevailed the configuration over the convention, based on xml and, in general, too verbose but really flexible too without dependency handler.
Next we arrived to Maven. Completely opposite to Apache Ant, a model based on convention over configuration, also based in xml but less verbose and with dependency handler, but less flexible.
And we finally arrived to Gradle. A tool to build software combining the Ant flexibility with the Maven conventions. With it, we can use Groovy thorugh a DSL and create tasks without abandon the conventions. Grooby allows us to reduce the number of code lines and also, as it is code, you can do things like tracing, testing, etc.
After introducing the opponents, we started with the ‘fight’:
Crisis, that damned work that is around us and chases us for some time now. The tax increase, the aid decrease, the politicians that look like they have forgotten their people and the ones that never thought about us, the evictions, the bailout, the unemployment… there are so many things, that watching the news is a difficult trial even for the most optimistic person in the world.
Amid all this maelstrom, it is difficult not to be swayed by despair and discouragement to see everything lost and want to flee, every man for himself! let’s go to other European country because in Germany or UK these things don’t happen!
I have to state that I don’t intend to criticise to the ones that make the decision to leave as I think that you need to be brave to make it, but it is sad to think that it is the only hope that we have to avoid sinking in this boat.
